Step 3. Eye Proportion

OK, eye placemnet. This one is tricky. I have seen at least 10 different ways people space their eyes out when drawing a character, all unique, and all effective. This is just my way of doing it and it's the way I find to be simplest.

The way I space my eyes out is to create your eye. Remember the human eye ball is a perfect sphere, or circle if you are looking at it from the front, its the eye lids that give it that oval shape. So, what you want to do is space out 5 human eyes, across the face, you can be sure of the size because if you cannot fit five, your eyes may be to large.

So ones you have 5 eyes spanning across the head. The second and the fourth circles is where you will place you eyes.

Here is how it's layed out in the image above:

Numbers 1 and 5 : keep an even spacing between the eyes and the side of the head, so the eyes arent to close to the sides.

Numbers 2 and 4 : are the eyes themselves. Same shape and size as the rest of the circles.

Number 3 : The bridge of the nose. This will keep you eyes from being spaces to close together as well as to close to the nose its
elf.

Some things to remember :

Eye placement is tough, I have seen some of the best artists out there
get it wrong sometimes, so just work at it and it will come to you eventually.

Thats it for now!! Now grab a pencil and some paper and start sketching those heads!
