Step 2. Feature spacing : Eye, Nose, Mouth

Ok, whew, this looks complex I know. But don't worry it's actually quite simple.

Here I have gone ahead and drawn out the front and profile head again, but this time we are focusing on facial features. Once again, don't worry about expressions just yet, we will cover that in another tutorial.

Now there are many different ways people space out the head to create proper proportions. So if you have your own way that works for you, I say USE IT!!

The head has an even spacing the aligns the different facial features. As you can see, I have divided the head into 6 sections, each spaced almost identical with the exception being the hairline.

The diagram pretty much speaks for itself interms of where you want to place your different features. Remember tho that this spacing can change dramatically depending on the character you draw, say if they have a large nose, the nose spacing will be longer. Or if you character is a muscular character chances are their jawline spacing will be longer and wider.

One hard fast rule tho, the eye spacing should almost always stay the same. If your eyes are to large or small you will fall into trouble convincing someone you are drawing a true to life person ^__-. The only exception being super deformed characters or over the top cartoony type people.

Some things to remember :

Watch that eye spacing. If you are having trouble coming up
with character designs, try playing around with the sectio spacing and
see what you get.

Now lets move on to " Ears "
